PRESIDENT’S WELCOME

2010 Summer Season

Our 50th Anniversary

I would like to welcome back all returning members and extend a warm welcome to the new members.

Although summer tennis seems a long way off, it will be here soon.  This 2010 summer season is Don Mills Tennis Club’s Golden Anniversary year. I am looking forward to an exciting season ahead with lots of good tennis, fun socials and seeing all of our members back at the club.

Don Mills Tennis Club has an exciting year ahead with lots of juniors, adults and seniors play on the agenda.

How did we do in 2009? It was a productive and successful season! It was a season of “giving back” to the members. Goals were set and accomplished such as: introduction of Mixed Vet and ICTA 55+ Mixed team, re-introduction of Men’s Vet to provide more competitive plays for the members and increased junior membership and summer camp participation. Club betterments were also accomplished such as:  Past Presidents plaque updated, installed Past Presidents and other plaques wall, installed club Rules & Regulations signage and TV installed in the clubhouse for members to enjoy. The second Year End GALA was a great success. We also introduced additional club events for the enjoyment of the DMTC members. We had good financial results through assets and in savings and efficiencies through increase use of Emailing and our website on the internet, the contracting of Club Professional Services under Peter Zak’s management, and wise cash investments of our cash assets.  Our NYTA Ladies A2, ICTA C and ICTA 55+ were first in their divisions. Great work by Nancy Kay, Steve Kaji and yours truly who captained the A, C and 55+ teams respectively. Our other teams who participated in the leagues also did well.

One of our targets this year is to increase our membership from previous years to 500 adult members and 150 junior members.

Don Mills have teams in the NYTA league and Inter-county Ladies A, C and Mixed A, B, C divisions, for our competitive play. There is also House League and Club tournaments play to join for lots of fun and competitive play. So there is opportunity to try out and see if you can make one of these teams if you are interested.

Don Mills will be hosting a Tennis Access competitive tournament to be held August 7th. Players from other clubs will also be invited to participate in this competitive play.  Details will be posted at our website:   www.donmillstennisclub.com and at our clubhouse.

Kaffeeklatsch will be back again on Tuesdays and Fridays (8:30 AM to noon) for all those interested in casual tennis and social interaction. A Sunday House League will be organized as in past seasons. And, as always, there will be regular supervised (tennis balls provided) playing times in the evenings and on Sunday mornings.

The OTA sponsored Tennis Fair will take place June 20th, 2-4 p.m. Information about format, entry fees, give-aways and sign-up sheets will be posted at our website, www.donmillstennisclub.com and at our clubhouse starting on the Opening Day social. Participation in the Fair is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so sign up as soon as you see the sign-up sheets posted.

I’d like to encourage everyone to try and participate in one of these events.

Our 2010 Year End GALA which is also our 50th Anniversary GALA will be held October 2nd, Saturday, location still to be determined. Please mark this date on your calendar. More information will be posted on our website and at the clubhouse.

DMTC membership rates will be going up for all membership categories in the year 2010.

Just remember, Don Mills still has the best membership prices for community club tennis!

Take advantage of the “Early Bird” special! Pay only $70 if membership application and cheque are received or postmarked on or before April 16, 2010. Membership application forms can be found on our website and at our clubhouse.

I would like to close with this final note:

A big thank you to all of our 2009 Executive members for their hard work, ideas and dedication that continue to make Don Mills Tennis Club one of the best clubs in Toronto. And a big thanks to all our other volunteers who dedicated their time and talent to make a difference in this club. Thank you all for making Don Mills Tennis Club part of your community getaway. I look forward to seeing everyone and to a great and exciting 2010 summer tennis season!!
