WELCOME! Fellow Don Mills Tennis Club members!

Here we are approaching our 2008 summer tennis season. It is with great pleasure that we welcome back all returning members to the Don Mills Tennis Club. And we extend a very warm welcome to all new members. We look forward to an exciting season with everyone participating in all of our traditional programs as well as new and exciting ones.

Just a brief look back of 2007, I would like to acknowledge the great efforts and results of the In-House, NYTA and Inter-County League Tournaments. A lot of work is put into organizing these leagues but at the end of the day I think everyone enjoys the games. Let’s keep up the fun and competitive edge and see what we can do in 2008!!

On the DMTC Executive side, a month after the October 2007 AGM, the new 2008 committee started to work and formulate plans for our 2008 season. Over the winter, we looked into a new method of enhancing our junior development program. We are implementing a Professional Tennis Management concept under the direction of Peter Zak to enhance our Junior Development program and to provide our club with enriched coaching activities. This is something new to the DMTC and we hope that it will provide the growth that we would like to see in the junior and coaching departments.

I am also excited and thrilled that we are in the process of reviewing our DMTC constitution. Proposed changes will be communicated to the membership and tabled at the 2008 Annual General Meeting.

W
hat’s in store for 2008? Looking into the 2008 season, our tennis activities will be well managed and fun for all the DMTC members to enjoy. We will be bringing back the Round Robin tournament replacing the 2007 Ladder which will feature all categories with more flair and an enhanced format. This Round Robin event will be coordinated by our none other than the very energetic Nigel McClean. It will be fabulous! Watch for more information at the clubhouse for this event and I would like to encourage all members to participate.

Our popular traditional Kaffeeklatsch is back in it’s usual times on Tuesdays and Fridays from
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This event is well attended for the enjoyment of wonderful social interaction and organized casual tennis play. I encourage everyone to come and join Kaffeeklatsch and enjoy the great camaraderie! Guests are welcome to this event.

We are also introducing an OTA sponsored Tennis Fair which will take place June 21st,  2-4 P.M. Details of the Tennis Fair such as format, entry fees, give-aways and sign up sheets will be posted at our website, www.donmillstennisclub.com and at our clubhouse starting on the Opening Day social.  It is a first come first serve basis, so sign up as soon as you see the sign up sheets posted.

I look forward to our DMTC Socials with exciting organized round robin and raffle draws, refreshments, and great lunches. Watch for ads at our website and at the clubhouse. Bring your friends and guests to enjoy the friendly ambiance that our DMTC Socials offer.

Also this year, we would like to look into the possibility of holding an End of Season Dinner and Dance Event which will be held sometime in September 2008. What a way to celebrate the end of the season with members and friends savouring the great fun and sharing wonderful summer tennis experiences!!! Survey sheets have been included in this membership mailing and are also available in our website and at the clubhouse. At this End of Season Dinner and Dance Event, we would like to present awards to all winners of various in-house and inter-county leagues and tournaments and recognize other individual achievements. Specific date, time and location will be determined based on results and feedback of the survey. Tickets will be printed and will go on sale around the middle of the season.  So make sure you fill out the survey sheet and mail it back with your membership application form or drop it off at the clubhouse as soon as you can. Stay tuned for more information.

Take advantage of the “Early Bird” special! Pay only $65 (not $70) if membership application and cheque is received or postmarked on or before
April 15, 2008.

Thank you all for making Don Mills Tennis Club part of your community getaway. I look forward to seeing everyone and to a great and exciting 2008 summer tennis season!!
